The world’s largest hotel chain hacked

Personal and credit card information for about 500 million guests of Marriott Starwood American hotel chain has been hacked. Hackers also managed to get other informations of guests across hotel network globally, that includes their residential address, Email addresses, as well as telephone and passport numbers. Information from booking 2014 till September 10th of this year is hacked.

– This has affected up to 500 million guests who have made reservations for stays at Starwood hotels, announcing the chain.

A review earlier this autumn revealed that hackers had copied and encrypted information that around 327 million guests reported when booking hotel rooms, but the scale may prove to be greater than this.

The prosecutor in New York has started investigating the case, it will be announced Friday.

Marriott Starwood is the world’s largest hotel chain and today consists of around 6,500 hotels with 1.2 million rooms in 127 countries. Sheraton, Westin, Le Meridien, St. Regis, Four Points and W Hotels are all owned by Marriott Starwood, which has about 180,000 employees.

– We deeply regret that this has happened. We have not lived up to what our guests deserve and what we expect from ourselves, “says Arne Sorenson, director of the hotel chain.

The value of the Marriott stock fell by 6 percent when Wall Street opened Friday.
