The royal couple celebrates their 50th wedding anniversary on Wednesday with a party and church service.
King Harald and Queen Sonja got married on August 29th, 50 years back at the Oslo Cathedral. They will celebrate this day with a service in the same church. The royal couple will be driving in an open car to Oslo Cathedral before the service at 15.00. The king’s cortege will drive down Karl Johans gate to Kirkegata from the castle and then will turn into the cathedral. The royal couple will be driven back in the same way after the services.
Sven Gj. Gjeruldsen, Head of Communications at the Royal House reported that the couple will be driving on the same car and the same route as they did on their wedding 50 years back. It will be possible to stand along the route and see the king and queen.
The car was also used during the wedding of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit in 2001 and is a Lincoln Continental from 1966 with the registration number A-5.
Also, there will be a parade including the Crown Prince’s family, Princess Märtha Louise and the children, and Princess Astrid a few minutes before the couple drive.
