Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo is sued by American Kathryn Mayorga for a rape in Las Vegas over nine years ago.
She stands out with her story in the German newspaper Der Spiegel. She claims the two met at a club in Las Vegas before raping her later on in a hotel suite.
The episode happened during a holiday trip and in order to avoid trial he paid $ 375,000 to the woman who in his time reported him for rape.
It is equivalent to over 3 million Norwegian kroner. It was in 2017 that the case became known after Der Spiegel became aware of the matter through documents from Football Leaks. The site once stood for extensive disclosures in international football.
According to Der Spiegel, Mayorga has gone to a civil lawsuit in Nevada on the basis of the confidentiality agreement, which her lawyer asks.
The charge is based on a document in which Ronaldo describes how he experienced the night.
– She has repeatedly said no and stop, he is quoted on the document.
According to another report in The Telegraph, Ronaldo’s lawyer Schertz Bergmann Rechtsanwälte isuued a statement denying the allegations. He called Der Spiegel’s report “balantly illegal” and said that be pursuing ‘moral damages in an amount corresponding to the gravity of the infringement, which is probably one of the most serious violations of personal rights in recent years.’
Cristiano Ronaldo also denied such allegations and said that the sexual encounter between him and the 34-year-old Mayorga was consensual.
