NVE raises the danger level for the unstable mountain party Veslemannen to orange, due to big movements and notice of heavy rain the next day.
It was yesterday we reported in that the danger level of Velemannen mountain was reduced to ‘Yellow’ level as there was decrease in movements in mountain.
When the danger level was on the red level this weekend, there was a lot of rainfall in the form of snow. That’s why the activity calmed down and the movements declined. But because temperatures have risen on Tuesday and will rise further in the course of tomorrow, the snow can melt and lead to increasing movements, according to the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE).
– The movements are now slightly increasing at 6-7 centimeters a day in the upper part and 1.5-2 centimeters a day in the lower part, says geologist Gudrun Dreiås Majala in NVE.
On Friday, until Monday morning, the level of danger was kept red by the NVE, but after the movements declined and temperatures fell, the danger level was downgraded to yellow Monday morning.
Residents of the mountain have been evacuated a long time in recent years.
