The Norwegian chess team had an amazing start with a 4-0 victory in Georgia’s Chess Olympiad on Monday.
The Norwegian army team stands in open class and impressed with victory in all four sides against Namibia. Aryan Tari met McLean Handjaba with black and gave the team a great start by taking home the party to his advantage after 33 moves.
Johan-Sebastian Christiansen also beat his opponent, Leonhard Mueller, with black pieces.
Frode Olav Olsen Urkedal met Dante M. Beukes with white, while Benjamin Arvola Notkevich had white pieces when he beat Immanuel Gariseb.
Also the Norwegian team in the women’s class got a perfect Olympic start 4-0 over Sudan. Hanna B. Kyrkjebø beat Jadalla Marwa with black pieces, Monika Machlik hit Naiwa Mohamed Ahmed with white pieces, Sheila Barth Sahl hit Gadalla Karar Sara with black while Ellen Hagesæther beat Jamal Rawan with white pieces.
This year’s 43rd Olympiad tournament is played in Batumi, Georgia. The chess player Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to attend.
