Women earn on average only 88 percent of what men do. The wage gap is narrowed down 2 percentage points in ten years. LO fears the opposite development in upswing times.
In the spring wage settlement, LO comes up with a tariff policy statement, in which, according to Dagens Næringsliv , the organization states that it is more demanding to get results in the distribution policy during upswing times, when the room for wage growth is higher.
“Experiences run when male-dominated groups at the top from”, it says.
– In some areas with many men, upturns are used for large individual additions, while professions with many women do not get the same, says chief economist Roger Bjørnstad in LO.
Kjersti Misje Østbakken at the Department of Social Research has researched wage differences between women and men.
– If I am to guess what is going to happen, then it is not certain that the difference in wages will increase. It is more realistic that they will decrease at a lower rate than they would otherwise, she says.
For about half the gender pay gap, one has not been able to find any other explanation than that women are women and men are men.
