German soldier  perished on driveway in Trøndelag

A German soldier died after being hit by a passenger car in Halt Valley in Trøndelag on Friday night.

A soldier was killed in an accident on a county road towards Aunegrenda. Police were notified about the accident around 21:40 on Friday night.

-A military vehicle stood still in the road, and a passenger car came from the north. The passenger car attempted to take a taxi driver to avoid colliding with the vehicle. Life-saving first aid was given on-site, but the man’s life was difficult to save, “says Øystein Sagen, head of the police department in Trøndelag.

Nationality of the soldier was later identified as German. The police in charge are questioning the driver and investigating the case. Crimea technicians have been sent to the place.

In recent weeks, NATO has had the greatest military exercise in Norway since the end of the Cold War. About 50,000 soldiers from 30 different countries have been involved.

Fylkesvei 6548 in Halt Valley was closed after the accident, the Road Traffic Center announced Friday night. Around 5:30 the road was reopened.
