First new Catholic church built in Cuba

The first new Catholic church built in Cuba since the Revolution of 1959, was inaugurated on Saturday with the help of a church in Florida.

The church built in Sandino west of Cuba is one of three new churches approved by the Cuban authorities as part of a warming of relations with the Vatican.

The church in Sandino is the first to be completed, with considerable help from a church in Tampa, Florida.

Observers look at the new churches as a hopeful signal, despite the fact that relations with the United States have worsened in recent weeks due to President Donald Trump’s threats of sanctions against Venezuela and Cuba.
