The fighting for Libya’s capital Tripoli seems to be more intense.
The strengths of the rebellion general Khalifa Haftar say they have taken control of military missions 5 miles south of the city after “violent clashes”.
The Libyan Red Crescent says they managed to evacuate civilians on Wednesday morning, but only from areas controlled by the UN-backed government in Tripoli.
Heavy artillery could be heard for much of the evening on Tuesday in the Ain Zara area, on the outskirts of the city.
– The fighting has become harder. We are afraid of leaving the house, said a resident of the area on the phone to the AFP news agency.
So far, more than 50 people have been killed in the fighting for the city. Haftar’s forces are trying to conquer Tripoli, but face opposition from militia groups associated with the UN-backed government.
Later on Wednesday, the UN Security Council will discuss the situation in Libya.
