More than 14000 farmers have applied for compensation after dry summer

The deadline to apply for the compensation for crop failure due to drought expired on Thursday night. Till then, almost 14,419 farmers applied for the compensation which is far more than what the Ministry of Agriculture assumed.

Last year, around 890 application were compiled, according to the report of the Nation.

On Thursday, the Agriculture Directorate published a report which shows that most application have been received from farmers in Oppland, Østfold and Akershus.

– The application number ended slightly over the forecast of 12,000 applications. This confirms the major damage the drought has caused, says section head Gunn Eide in the Agriculture Directorate.

Applications are processed in two stages, in municipalities and counties. The goal is to make sure that as many manufacturers as possible get their compensation before the end of the year.

Eide says that they have received a strong urge from the Minister for Agriculture to treat as many issues as possible before Christmas.

Currently, 269 million compensation crowns have already been paid.
