At least 14 Haitians died when a boat headed to the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean capsized. It is unknown how many people were on board.
14 others were rescued by the Turks and Caicos authorities.
The police were notified at 8 am on Sunday morning that a boat with Haiti migrants had capsized on the island of West Caicos, an uninhabited island in British overseas territory.
– At present, it is not clear how many people were on board, says police chief Trevor Botting and says he condolences to the survivors of the dead.
– No journey is worth risking the lives of on dangerous seas in small vessels, he says.
